Back Forty Kennel Visit
Welcome
Come on in and take a look; I'm so proud of this kennel. I had to crawl before I could
walk and now I'm running. :-) This is a dream come true for me. Just to have a nice place
for my dogs and puppies to live is great. It also makes our work easier. I will take you
from the building stage to now. We still have a few little odd and end things to be done.
My hubby Billy Joe built it and he has his hands full on this farm; so when it rains or is
just too cold he will do a little something in the kennel for me.
When you drive up this is what you see. The porch is so nice to sit under when family;
friends and clients come here. I love my flower boxes; I can have something blooming
most of the time. While sitting and chatting we have the calming sound of water
running over the water wheel; these rocks came from a creek on our property.
Come on in; as you enter you are in my office and to your right is the grooming room.
Oh!!! the treadmill; just for looks :-) I still have some trim to finish. Looking to the left
you see my desk and the qubical where I take a lot of my pictures. It's convient; I can
take pictures; and plug them right into my computer all without moving.
The grooming room is spacious; here you find all you need to get the job done. I can
prepare special baby food if needed; wash towels and blankets as needed.
Keep the coffee
pot going; watch TV what ever keeps us happy.
Above, this is where you will find me most of the day. On the right you see the door
leading into the kennel area
.
Left; Epoxy coating on the floor and wall to make it clean and santized. the biggest
mistake I made. My dogs slip and slide on this slick surface. I have since roughened it
up some and one day hope to get rid of that surface all together.
Right; every run has lixit drinkers made of stainless steel to last and feeders made of
PVC sewage pipe. This cuts down on feed time and allows the dogs fresh water and food
at all times. There is a pad in every run so they can get off the floor if they want to.
Left and Right side have water hose hung up off the floor to prevent tripping over it.
Florecent lighting; 4 runs of 10' light strips provide adequate lighting; Switches allow
for using all or part of the lights. We are well insulated as we provide heat and air
conditioning.  Exaust fans in the rear are used on a timer to keep the amonia out of the
kennel.

When I tell you my puppies are in play pens this is what I'm talking about. These are
made of 1x1 angle iron with 1/2 inch gird closet shelving for the floor. PVC coated wire
on the sides and top with doors cut in the top. My puppies stay clean in these pens and
when I reach in to get a puppy; I don't have to worry about one jumping out and getting
hurt. We later put lixits in every play pen. This works wonderful. They stay here until I
think they are old enough and large enough to put on the floor. That is the ones that I
keep or maybe getting some age on them becuase I haven't placed them.

I didn't build it so big to have a lot of dogs but big enough for what I have to allow plenty
of room to run and play. Occassionally I board dogs, many of my runs are empty; but
like I said; if I need the room I have it.
I hope you enjoyed this page; I want to get some more up and organize this page a little
better if time allows.. Fran
